Once upon a time....
A girl had a dream, to create a costume as beautiful as that worn by Natalie Portman from Star Wars.
Having very little sewing skills or experience, she asked her mother Christine to help. Christine had only her school day memories of sewing classes to go by and knew very little about working from patterns, but she said she would "have a go".
She obtained some scrap material and set to work to recreate the Lake Dress. Although it was a bit rough and ready, Tracy was delighted with it and so started our journey.
Tracy was insistent that only the same materials were to be used like in the film. (so no pressure cutting silk satin and chiffon!!!)
Other skills had to be learnt, like dying fabrics, making jewellery and even how to make a wig. So we set up some trays of dye on the lawn...
..... and the rest, as they say, is history
We have since gone on to create many more creations from stage, TV and theatre. Learning from our mistakes (and there were many!) but we persevered and entered our costumes into many cosplay events, winning awards for our efforts.
We are not professional seamstresses and we don't claim to know how to do the correct methods to construct and build these costumes, just two women with a passion for sewing. Combining our individual skills to create dreams.
An Exhibition of some of our costumes shown to the public for free
We hope in some small way, to inspire you to dust down your sewing machines and start creating your own dreams. There is no such word as "CAN'T", just have a go and surprise yourselves.
HAPPY SEWING
