The UK’s largest organisation for rabbit lovers!
Despite being one of the most popular pets, rabbits are amongst the most neglected, with a huge proportion living out their days confined to a hutch, alone and unable to display the behaviours they would show in the wild.
We aim to improve the health and welfare of domestic rabbits through a combination of campaigning, education and the most up to date advice. If you are a rabbit owner or thinking of becoming one then there is a huge amount of information for you on these pages. We have fantastic resources for vet members and if you’re in the pet retail trade then find out why good welfare is good business in our Hutch is Not Enough pages.

In 2016 the total number of rabbits in Shelters across the UK, reached 67,000!!! Please, before you think about buying a rabbit (or any animal), consider its needs and the expense.
Are rabbits for me?
Do you truly want to add to that statistic? Then you have to ask yourself why there are such a *huge* number of abandoned rabbits in rescue centres all over the UK. Well now, let’s recap:
#1 – children get bored of pet rabbits. It’s fact. Don’t give in to ‘pester power’.
#2 – expensive vet bills. Neutering, vaccination, almost inevitable dental work…
#3 – rabbits should be kept in pairs or groups, not singularly (calculate the poos and vet bills!)
#4 – rabbits need huge hutches – have you go the space in your home or garden. Did you know a suitable hutch complex can cost several hundred pounds?
#5 – rabbits, despite their appearance do not like being picked up and cuddled and can get aggressive when they become frightened.
#6 – a single rabbit can produce up to 500 poos per day. Wow, that’s a lot of clearing up!
#7 – expect to pay out £11,000 for rabbits over their lifetime (see #2 And #4)
#8 – complicated care needs , a Hutch is simply *not enough*
#9 – rabbits can live for 10 years and over. Many people don’t factor this in.
Tip #10 67K already in rescue centres
Still want rabbits…?
Rabbits can make absolutely fabulous pets for the right owner. If you have done your research and you are still keen to offer forever homes for a pair of rabbits, please, please approach a reputable rescue centre and *don't* get your rabbits from a pet shop. #adoptdontshop
