Making The Parade
        Gown Wig
The making of this costume can be found on Youtube following my link in "video tutorials"

You will need a good quality, long brown wig.
See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LXnNxMO0bw
for reference

Picture
.
To support the hairpiece, we went to our local garden centre and bought two flower supports. After a bit of altering, we came up with this construction. The wig can be seen extending past the head, so make the lengths as appropriate.

Picture
.
We covered the spokes in bubble wrap, but wadding will do just as well.
Picture
.
I bought three pairs of knee length black tights, cut them down, stretched them over the spokes and secured with elastic bands and tape.

Picture
.
Using a spare wig of a similar colour, I wrapped hair over the tights and secured again with elastic bands.
Picture
.
Tie the hair into a ponytail, then pull the hair through the middle of the wheel.

Picture
.
To secure the wheel, sew it through the wig onto the netting underneath, so it does not move.

Picture
.
This picture is from an earlier practice piece and although it shows the ponytail split into 5 pieces, you need to split the ponytail into SIX pieces.

Picture
.
Fold each section over each spoke, secure with an elastic band.
Picture
.
Using spare hair, construct a long plait and wind it around ALL of the spokes near the centre and sew in place.
To finish, wrap a strip of silver gift wrap ribbon around the elastic bands to hide them.
